Madi is one of Australia’s most distinguished netballers who is best known for her dominance through the mid court. As a young athlete, Madi was recognised in 2006 as the Best New Talent as well as the Rookie of The Year. Following this, Browne was also recognized as the 21/U Australian Player of The Year in 2008. Continuing her early success, Madi represented Australia in 2009 at the 21/U World Championships and successfully helped Australia win the title.
At national level, Browne began her career at the Melbourne Vixens in 2008 before leaving for the West Coast Fever in 2009. Madi’s debut year at the Fever was the beginning of a tremendous string of success. Over 2009 and 2010, Browne was awarded MVP for the West Coast Fever before returning to the Vixens ahead of the 2011 season. Browne’s return to the Vixens in 2011 saw her win the MVP award in 2013 and 2016 whilst being runner-up MVP in years 2011-12 and 2014-15. Such success at the Vixen’scan largely be attributed to Madi’s stellar 2012 year. In this year alone, Madi won the Holden Australian International Player of the Year award, Australian ANZ Championship Player of the Year award and the prestigious Liz Ellis Diamond, the highest individual honourin Australian netball.
On an international level, Madi has furthered her success and has proven that she is one of the greatest netballers’sthe game has seen. In 2014, Madi was the first Australian to win a second Liz Ellis Diamond award whilst also winning her second International Player of the Year award. Since debuting in 2010, Madi has been a key centre-courtplayer in the Diamond’smake-up and has experienced great success with them to date, winning 3 Constellation Cups (2011, 2013, 2014) and 1 Gold Medal in the 2012 Commonwealth Games.
After suffering a tragic knee injury in 2015, Madi was ruled out for the remainder of the year. However, after dedicating herself to her rehabilitation, Madi came back to the 2016 ANZ Championship season and dominated. Remarkably, Madi was awarded the 2016 ANZ Championship’s MVP for the second time in her career. In the wake of her success, Madi opted to take a new path in her career as she joined the Collingwood Magpies ahead of the inaugural 2017 Suncorp Super Netball. Furthermore, Madi was also named the inaugural captain of the new team, a vote that was unanimous by her teammates and coaching staff.
Madi played well in the 2018 Commonwealth Games where the Diamonds took home Silver in a nail-biting thriller against England. Away from netball Madi is a qualified physical education teacher and a die-hard health and wellbeing fanatic who has very strong family values.
